The second week of my apprenticeship involved me getting further into client work and having more freedom with live briefs as I was given an opportunity to design a website from the ground-up, to be sent to a client for feedback. It was good for me to be able to do this as I largely had to organize my own time and balance researching the target market with actual design work, within realistic time constraints.
I’ve already picked up lots of little tips which have considerably sped up my workflow (mainly because I no longer have to hunt for the right layer when in Photoshop), and working to client specifications has been a good challenge for me, as working to another persons tastes has meant that I’ve learned about (and now appreciate) different styles of design that I didn’t have much interest beforehand.
I’ve also completed the design of the internal website which I was working on last week. I’m really happy with how it’s turned out as well as how I managed to translate the look & feel of it across different screen sizes, which I initially thought would be really difficult, but after a while I cracked it and didn’t have to cut out any content for mobile devices, which I can only take as a good sign!
